[Current Mood | tired]

I'm finding it hard to keep up with everything.

Last weekend I took Friday off and we went to visit family in East Tennessee. We were late leaving on Thursday so we didn't get to Greeneville until about 1am EDT. I went upstairs to go to sleep, but I left the light on for blessed_lunatic and Ouida Mae. About five minutes later, the dogs went nuts and Torgo jumped on the bed and started barking. I thought Freya was under the bed and they had a disagreement, so I glanced under the bed and when I saw a big black and white fur ball, I chastised Freya because I could still hear low growling over and over again. Then I put my glasses on. Looking again I figured out that it was my parent's black and white cat trapped under the bed, growling at the dogs. Oops. Sorry Freya.

Friday we sort of hung around the house. I went over to the shop with the dogs for a bit while blessed_lunatic and Dar went to town. JB showed me how to use the wet sandpaper he had set up and I experimented with sanding down some of the test tiles I had made for a project (to be documented later) while watching the dogs run down to the creek over and over again (and trying to keep them out of trouble, they only ran across the bridge twice).

We had a goal of spending some time up at The River, but as it turned out that was just a goal and not a plan. Instead of spending the night there, we just went up for a few hours on Saturday to visit with my grandmother, Rosa. It was her first chance to see Ouida Mae and she was very excited, although she tries not to let on. We had a nice visit and then we headed back to Greeneville.

Sunday we went up to Bristol to visit with blessed_lunatic's mother and grandfather. They were happy to see Ouida Mae, as usual, and the visit went well, although it started raining quite a bit making the back porch a bit too cool. After spending the day there, we headed back to Greeneville again.

On Monday we headed back home to Nashville, via Maynardville to visit with Kimberly's father and new step-mother. That visit also went well, although we left a bit too late to get home in time to mow the yard.

I'm sure there are some details I left out, and some stuff I just don't remember, like the weird dream I had Sunday night. Pirate legends and a cross between a Tolkien discussion group and a UFO support group, and someone making donuts that turned out to be bagels, and a road to a dark citadel (although I think that was just in a story).

Oh well, I guess the pictures will have to do the rest of the talking.

[info]blessed_lunatic and I took Ouida Mae, Torgo, and Freya to east Tennessee to visit family for Easter. We got a later start on Friday than we intended as we waited for the storms to blow over, so we didn't get to Greeneville until about 11pm CDT.

Saturday we chilled in Greeneville and a bunch of different people came to see Ouida, including [info]blessed_lunatic's father. It all went fairly well, despite being a little overstimulating with all the people.

On Sunday we went up to blessed_lunatic[info]blessed_lunatic's grandfather's and had lunch with her family. blessed_lunatic and I were both exhausted, so it was pretty low key. I did take some pictures, though.

Today we just had some lunch with my parents then headed back home. Over the course of the entire weekend we (I) drove about 600 miles, and now I have a headache.

I did notice new signs near Oak Ridge that say "Department of Energy/Oak Ridge National Laboratory/Y-12 National Security Complex". I thought it was a little weird that they are advertising the sensitive nature of the location on big green signs on the interstate.

Everyone goes ga-ga over Ouida Mae and says she's the cutest baby, blah blah. I'm sure they say that to allmost of the babies, so I try to tell her not to let it go to her head.

[Current Mood | tired]

So, the house on the corner that I have posted pictures of before got modified last week. Someone, probably the owner, painted over the "move this junk now" with white spray paint on Tuesday, but they only painted over the letters stroke for stroke, so you can still read the words, just with lower contrast. I find that to be amusing.

Friday was our company picnic/spring fling. Many people played softball and soccer, but I played games (mostly Zendo) with a couple of coworkers. It was a lot of fun.

Saturday ouida_mae and I went to a herding dog competition. I've never seen so many border collies in one place. There were some very skilled dogs and it was fun to watch, if a little cool and windy out.

Later some friends and I met up with a friend of ours who moved away last year. We ate dinner and played Imperial and Wizard. It was fun to finally finish a game of Imperial. My first one was cut short. I didn't win, but I'm looking forward to playing it again. I have some ideas I'd like to try.

I've done a little bit more work with polymer clay. I need to take some pictures... although I already gave away one piece, so I won't have any pictures of it.

I didn't sleep well last week.

Last night I had a dream that I was in a house. Some drywall was splitting at a seam, and I could pull it away. It was flexible. Inside the wall was infested with little iridescent blue worms, around 2-3 inches long, each, and about 1/16th of an inch in diameter, maximum.

Today I went with oudia_mae to Torgo's second agility/confidence building class. He did fairly well. There were only four dogs there. Torgo was the first to go through the tunnel easily. A couple of the others didn't really get the hang of that.

[Current Mood | tired]

Last week I found a link to an online store that indicated that they might be a source of wyndstone marble paper. I checked and they listed dark blue in stock. I thought to myself, as soon as I have a job, I need to order as much of that as I can.

I start work tomorrow, so I decided to see about ordering it. Now they list dark blue as discontinued. ARGH!

In other news, we have a very bad dog.

I had Friday off so we could go to East Tennessee for Mother's Day and to return [info]ouida_mae's father's truck. We ended up leaving at 3pm on Friday, which was later than [info]ouida_mae had planned.

We dropped off the truck in Knoxville and talked for a while, then headed on to Greeneville to spend the night. We got in at around 10:30pm and we talked with Dar until around midnight, when we went to bed.

Saturday morning we got up and headed to [info]ouida_mae's mother's house in Bluff City. We ate lunch there and then went to [info]ouida_mae's grandfather's house. [info]ouida_mae collected some plants there and we went out into the country and the old farm property to collect some rocks. [info]ouida_mae's mother and grandfather went as well. Torgo and Freya played in the creek and had a lot of fun, although I think Torgo may have been a little overstimulated by the experience.

After getting some rocks, [info]ouida_mae and I headed out to Dar and JB's river property to spend the night. In the morning, Dar and JB came up and then Rosa, Tim, Dennis, Mary Kay, and Rosanne came over for a mother's day lunch. Tim brought his two black lab puppies, and by "puppies" I mean dogs bigger than Freya. Dar and JB had Moose with them, and Rosa had Sammy and her new dog Amber.

At first Freya tried to protect all the humans from the dogs, but that was too much for her so she ended up just hiding under the table and snapping at any dog that came near her. Torgo was a little hostile toward the other dogs, but it was mainly a problem with Amber, who kept getting into Torgo's space even though he was obviously uncomfortable with it.

Mary Kay and Rosanne didn't actually make it up until around 3pm, so they missed lunch at 1:30pm. We sat around and talked for a bit, but then Tim, Dennis, and JB went over to Rosa's place to get some stuff. [info]ouida_mae and I harvested some plants, including stinging nettle and trillium. We left just as the guys were getting back, but we had a long drive ahead of us.

And now, home again. This wasn't a very good summary, but it's all you're getting so you better be happy with it.

[info]baka_san and William came up this weekend. We played a lot of board games.

Friday, we ate at Royal Thai then we went over to Thom's house and played Struggle of Empires and some other stuff.

Saturday we played Age of Steam and then went back to Thom's. [info]baka_san and I ended up playing Struggle of Empires again.

Sunday we went to Joey and [info]gypsy_thief's and played Settlers, Power Grid, and Tichu. We also went out for Indian. Good times.

When we got back to my place at around 1am, we played Zendo. William came up with a very difficult rule. Simplified, it's something like, "A koan has the buddha nature if it has at least three colors and the pip count of each color is a consecutive number in the Fibonacci sequence. i.e. a consecutive three digit subset of 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21".

We gave up after around two hours. [info]baka_san and I had some ideas that started to approach the solution, but without hitting upon the idea that it was the Fibonacci sequence, and not seeing any valid koans with an 8 pip count of one color, we were stumped.

Monday morning we played Zendo again. I picked a rule that turned out to be too difficult, but not my as much as William's, in my estimation. We ate at a Mexican place, and then they headed home.

My paper arrived while we were playing Zendo. My shipment of books has been delayed, though. Bummer. Anyway, I got some nice, handmade paper. Now I just have to figure out what to make with it.

Oh, I ordered DDR and two pads for work.

This new dog is a pain. She's a little too smart for her own good.

Still busy. Work is a little wacky, lately.

Got a new dog, Freya. We to Rockwood on Saturday to see about Rory, a dog with Border Collie Rescue of East Tennessee. The woman that was fostering him didn't like the way that Torgo didn't really have any interest in playing with him, so she wasn't comfortable letting us have him. She called another guy with BC Rescue. He didn't have any currently, but he knew of two that weren't with BC Rescue that were in need of adoption.

We contacted one couple and went out to see them near Alcoa. They had nine dogs, including two great danes. We liked the border collie they needed to give up. It was chasing their horses, which they thought would have a negative outcome. We decided to take her with us.

[info]ouida_mae decided to name her Freya after a long brainstorming session on the drive home. On the whole, she's doing pretty well, and Torgo is adjusting. She's been a little destructive when we haven't been home, but hopefully that can be corrected easily enough.

I finished playing Metroid Fusion four times. Now I'm done with it. The first time was just to finish it. The second was to try to finish it with a faster time and more items, which I did (1 hour shorter, 10% more items). The third was to get 100% of the times, which I did. The last time was an attempt to finish in under 2 hours, for a different ending. I finished in 2:01. ARGH! Now I'm frustrated enough not to want to try again.

I also finished Metroid: Zero Mission recently. Quite a good remake of the original.

I got GIPF and YINSH, finally. I also ordered a couple of cool origami books.

Doug and William are coming up this weekend to hang out and play games. Another friend of mine is having people over for gaming on Saturday night, which will be fun. Hopefully I will get to play Age of Steam and Struggle of Empires at least once each this weekend. Whoo!

I'm sure there are things I have forgotten. [info]ouida_mae got a piano. Other stuff.
*shrug* Oh well.

Yargh! Release week! [Nov. 16th, 2004|10:32 pm]

[Current Mood | drained]
[Current Music |Barenaked Ladies - For You]

This week is release week, so I'll probably post lest often than... umm... nevermind. Let's just say that I'll be more busy than usual.

Last Saturday, [info]baka_san, [info]gypsy_thief, and William came over and played board games. Lots of fun. [info]girlonawire stood us up, though. =( We ate at Royal Thai with [info]ouida_mae.

Sunday I went over to Tempest's and played D&D with his normal crew. It was the intro series of narrative adventures. It seems like an interesting setting which will be fun, although I'm not sure when we'll get to play again in the next couple of months, with the Holiday wackyness and all.

[info]ouida_mae's birthday was last week. I got her North and South, which we've been watching when we have time.

Weekend before last [info]novalyne came up to visit. This coming weeking, Cindy is supposed to come up, and then after that is Thanksgiving (and my birthday). Too much going on. I just want a break. At least I have next week off.

I've been trying to figure out why developers always underestimate how long it will take to do something. We know we do it, yet we can't properly compensate. *sigh*

Kingdom of Loathing is too laggy. I'm pretty much wasting my turns in the clan gym now, just because I don't have the spare time to actually wait for the site to respond.

I hate people.

I've only been jugging once in the last year. I've only been to the go club once in the last year. This needs to change, but I'm not sure if it actually will.

Sometimes I wonder what the point of having a journal like this is for someone as secretive as I am. Even if this was anon, I wouldn't disclose intimate details of my life and work. Everything here is superficial. I'm not even sure why the five people that read it actually bother. Most of them are there anyway, it's not like this is new information most of the time. *sigh*

"We all have mistakes to make."

Josh, from my gaming group, sent me a link to a short article on quantum game theory. Although the author contends that the agents involved are not communicating, I think I disagree. I can't articulate my disagreement very well right now, but I believe that the contrived tennis ball example is somewhat lacking, and the sharing of entangled particles itself is an act of communication that goes beyond a pre-game agreement to follow a simple rule.

I should probably use livejournal cuts, but I'm lazy and I don't know how much the handful of people on my friends list care. If this were a community, then I'd probably use them, but it's not. Let me know if you want me to start, though. I must say, though, that people that don't put anything meaningful before a cut drive me nuts. The point of a cut is to let people skip things they don't want to bother seeing, but if you don't say anything before the cut, how can anyone decide if they want to see it or not?

Torgo had a had day yesterday. I took him to the vet in the morning to have his teeth cleaned. They put him under for a few hours, and he wasn't right for the rest of the day.
